The next time you go to the bathroom, you may want to think twice before you shut the door behind you. Or maybe not? What is the truth behind various myths about Haunted bathrooms that have exhibited paranormal activity across the globe? Today we will delve into some of the most common myths surrounding the mysterious bathroom.
Next month we will celebrate a very special global Holiday here at Tradewinds Imports. Great guess, but we are not referring to Thanksgiving! November 19th is World Toilet Day and it is something to get very excited about! Before this day comes, let’s investigate why the bathroom raises so much conversation about reported Hauntings.
Background Info on Haunted Toilets
Reports of Hauntings and supernatural experiences have several characteristics that seem to always be present. For one, the location has to be old! Second, sightings and experiences are usually concentrated in a particular area that has the most amount of activity.
These areas tend to be highly trafficked areas (by the living). Conveniently enough, the bathroom is small, has mirrors that elucidate the imagination, and requires an individual to be contained (or trapped depending on the situation). Top this off with the fact that you may be unclothed, limiting your chances of escape in the case that danger presents itself. Due to these contributing factors, it’s not uncommon to hear of hauntings that take place in the bathroom. Moving on, let’s find out the reasonable explanations behind these reports!
Ghost Flushing
Have you ever been sitting in the living room watching your favorite television show when suddenly you hear the ominous sound of your toilet flushing in your bathroom? Most people deal with this in one of two way; A) Ignore it and act like you didn’t hear anything OR B) Grab a pillow and proceed to press your body deeper and deeper into the couch as if ghosts won’t be able to find you tucked between your couch cushions!
“Ghost Flushing” as it has been referred to, actually has a explanation that is not too farfetched. If your toilet has a small leak caused by a faulty seal, your toilet bowl is constantly losing water. In order to compensate for this, your toilet will naturally release water to refill your toilet bowl. If you are unable to find the source of the leak, you may want to hire a water leak detection expert. Faucets Turning on By Themselves
Now this next myth is enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck raise. Straight out of your favorite Stephen King Sci-Fi flick, you might think that faucets turning on by themselves is unexplainable and inarguably supernatural. If you’ve ever witnessed the tap twist open a faucet by itself, you are worthy of being hailed a hero if you didn’t jet out of the bathroom like Scooby Doo!
Here’s what you were witnessing. When your tap builds up with pressure, it will press against the screw and cause the faucet to turn by itself. This is most common in faucets/sinks that are older with aging parts that have worn over the years. More than likely, it will happen with the hot water tap because, as you know, hot water tends to expand, thus building pressure and created enough force to twist open your faucet!
Has this happened to you? Replace your old leaky faucet with one of these modern bathroom fixtures that will eliminate any worries that might be keeping you up at night!
Other Explanations for Claims of Bathrooms Being Haunted
So that leaves us with a few other common symptoms that your home may be the setting for. Electrical malfunctions, banging pipes, doors opening and closing by themselves. Well, we don’t necessarily have a solid explanation for these! We’ll leave these last few for you to decide whether they are fact or fiction! Make sure you keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary this Halloween. You never know what you might or might not see behind you!
