How long do you think you could go without a relieving trip to the good ole John? A day, maybe two? Well, Matt Damon is on a mission, an extended mission, of no toilet use (I repeat, NO TOILET USE) until there is access to sanitary water for all. So who’s in?
“In protest of this global tragedy, until this issue is resolved, until everybody has access to clean water and sanitation, I will not go to the bathroom,” claimed Damon in front of a group of reporters.

He’s kidding, kind of. The Bourne Trilogy hero is the co-founder of water.org and the star of the newest viral video. The 3-minute YouTube skit is Matt Damon’s way of bringing comedic attention to a very serious issue, the lack of access to clean, sanitary water.
The bathroom strike might be a little extreme, but the truth is, we all take access to clean water for granted. As Damon mentions in his video, more than 2.5 billion people do not have access to a drinkable water or a sanitary toilet. A number smaller than the amount of people who have cell phones. When you think about it, it makes you consider the long, hot shower you had before work this morning, doesn’t it?

The video and organization is an important cause we can all get behind. As mentioned, about $25 is all it takes to provide clean water to someone in need. So next time you’re sitting on the crapper (named after Thomas Crapper!) ask yourself if others don’t deserve the same luxury. If you feel so inclined, you can sign up with Matt’s organization at Strike With Me and think about ways that you can limit the amount of water used in your own home or bathroom.
