Amish culture has often been recognized for its reluctance to adopt modern technology in an effort to maintain a simple and peaceful lifestyle. Even with the advent of power tools and other electronic devices, the Amish have honed a skill that has created an eminent reputation for their furniture. Amish furniture is known for being handcrafted hardwood pieces that last for generations. You would have never guessed what the Amish can teach you about bathroom vanities!

Superior Craftsmanship

Amish furniture is handcrafted by the Amish, primarily in the areas of Ohio and Shipshewna, Indiana. Their beliefs do not allow the use of electricity or other forms of modern technology. Instead, the employ traditional hand cranked and hydraulic tools. Pneumatic power is incorporated throught the use of diesel generators but this is as far as it goes.

Commended for their passion for their work, Amish craftsman have become associated as being heirloom-quality pieces. Their attention to detail is demonstrated in the fact every piece of wood is hand selected. In this way, a unique piece of furniture is created each time with a level of quality control that you will not be able to find with big name brands!

What stands Out

What immediately stands out is the fact that the Amish do not use particle boards or laminates! You will not find any rough surfaces or staples on this style of furniture. This is because pieces of wood are joined together with dowel pins, biscuit joinery, dovetailing, and mortoise. The highest quality of Amish furniture is 100% kiln dried and constructed out of northern hardwoods!

Two styles are known to be characteristic of their furniture. Mission Style features straight lines and exposed joinery. Design concepts focus on a clean and modern design. The Shaker Style is very elegant while remaining simplistic in décor. Created for its functionality and durability, Shaker stays close to its Amish roots!
