The mega-company Rubbermaid has recently announced a new line of products sure to flesh out their already-impressive portfolio: they now want to move into the bathroom-cleaning niche with bathroom scrubbers and their patented “Clean and Dry” plunger; this only months after releasing their “Reveal” microfiber spray mop. This move is a notable departure from the products that made the company famous, namely plastic storage solutions for food and other items, but for those of us who use and love Rubbermaid products this is certainly good news! I know that I, for one, welcome our new house-cleaning overlords!
Welcome, Overlords!
The bathroom scrubbers come in 4 different styles: there’s a “spray” scrubber, an extendable bathroom scrubber, a flexible scrub brush for corners, and a “2 in 1” scrubber which does I’m-not-actually-sure-what but it sounds exciting. Who doesn’t like it when 2 things come in 1?
The Clean and Dry plunger compared to a normal plungerBut the item that really sounds cool to me is the “Clean and Dry” plunger. I know, I know: how can you possibly improve on a toilet plunger? It’s basically the simplest tool in the plumber’s shed, am I right? But Rubbermaid went ahead and made the plunger better, anyway. Because what’s the biggest problem with toilet plungers? Cleaning them up after you’ve used them. No worries, now Rubbermaid is taking care of that for you.
Their plunger is protected with a “nanotech coating” (yeah, I’m pretty sure that means their plunger is more science-y than my car) that repels water. Basically, the nanotech coating (which they have dubbed, in true Rubbermaid fashion, ‘NeverWet’) functions like a coat of wax paper, so water beads up on the surface and then rolls off easily. The upshot of this is a.) germ control, as the water that carries microbes doesn’t cling to the plunger and b.) you’ll never have to really clean the plunger again, because shi– erm, stuff — just flows right off of it.
If this is all part of Rubbermaid’s plan to take over the world by making our lives just a little bit easier and more efficient, then I am all for it. No amount of ‘iPhone 5’s will ever make me as happy as the knowledge that I will never, ever have to clean a plunger again.
You can buy the scrubbing brushes at most stores (not at Tradewinds Imports yet though, sorry) for anywhere from $4 to $15 depending on the type of brush, and you can get the awesome plunger at places like Target or Costco for around $12.
I don’t know about you, but I’m actually really looking forward to cleaning my bathroom now.
And of course, if your brand new super-high-tech toilet plunger from Rubbermaid doesn’t work, you might need to call a plumber for a good old-fashioned wrench job. Want to know how to do that? We can help! Read our article on How to Find a Good Plumber here on Tradewinds Imports.
Happy plumbing!
