What is one of the first things that comes to mind when remodeling a bathroom? Master Yoda’s Guide to Bathroom Remodeling

Monday, March 11th, 2013

So everyone’s probably heard this by now, but in one of the biggest cinematic news events of the last decade, George Lucas sold the rights to his Star Wars saga to Disney… and Disney promptly announced that they are fast-tracking development on a new trilogy (the fabled episodes VII through IX, which Lucas had originally conceived but never actually acted on).

For someone like me, who grew up with stories of droids and jawas and Jedi and bounty hunters and epic intergalactic dogfights, this was enormous news and brought back countless childhood memories. And as a child, few characters in that fictional world impressed me so much as the wise Jedi master, Yoda.

Yoda is cool

Just. Too. Cool.

How to Update the Look of your Bathroom Vanity for Less Than $100

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

A lot of people refuse to give much thought to their bathroom vanity, which is a fact of life. However, for those select individuals who do devote much thought to their bathroom vanity, they may be very pleasantly surprised to discover that they can actually update the look of their vanity for less than $100, which makes it a great opportunity to redecorate a main piece of their entire bathroom.

In essence, the bathroom vanity is just the vanity cabinet that is located right beneath the sink in the bathroom. Oftentimes, this vanity comes complete with either a marbled or even a tiled top that is usually reserved for keeping items such as your toothbrush, your makeup or your basic bar of soap! At times, this vanity will be sold in stores along with a sink receptacle, yet much of the time, this sink is going to have to be bought in order to fit said vanity. In addition, the faucets are usually sold separately, too.

Avoid Contractor Disaster with our Contractor Checklist

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Even the thought of a beautiful home remodeling project can turn sour at the thought of hiring a contractor. How will I know if they use quality materials? What am I really paying for? What happens if they do a bad job? These are all common concerns, and you are correct in anticipating them. So how do you put yourself at ease during the contract hiring process? Our detailed guide will help avoid the common pitfalls, protect your investment, and make you more involved in the process.

Weighing your contractor options can give you the best deal. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

1. Solicit at least three bids
If you wanted to buy an item you have never purchased before, like a didgeridoo, how would you know whether you are being overcharged or if you are paying less for an inferior product? Shopping around is a smart idea, whether you are looking for an indigenous Australian wind instrument or a home remodeling project. Higher bids typically mean that the contractor is using better materials (something you can verify during the contract). Look out for too good to be true bids that are significantly lower. Sometimes these contractors can raise the price during the job, pulling the classic bait-and-switch.

Envious Justice League Members Secretly Applaud Spider-man Themed Bathroom

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Have you ever dreamed of a super-heroic bathroom? What might once have been a childhood fantasy can now be a totally “marvel-ous” reality with a little ingenuity and creativity, as demonstrated by one super-powered interior designer and comic book fan!

Internet user RileyReplicas shows off his creative side with the design of a Spider-man themed bathroom. As far as bathroom designs go, this is one piece that is sure to knock every comic book fan off of their feet. Movie goers will also be able to recognize some famous villains of the series: The Sandman, The Lizard, Doc Ock, and The Green Goblin.

Look out Spider-man!

RileyReplicas also showcases a couple of rare comics that showcase Spider-man’s black costume, along with a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15. If you’re looking for interesting bathroom ideas, this is one creative path to wander down!

Set your phasers to stun- err, wrong universe. However, if this wall doesn’t get your “spidey sense” tingling, you don’t know how much danger you’re in. Between the Lizard’s gaze, Sandman’s porous fist bursting through the wall, Doc Ock’s two tentacles blindly tapping their way around to find a weak spot, and the jack-o’-lantern bomb from the Green Goblin in mid flight – if you really were Spider-man, you’d be in trouble!

Both Venom and Spider-man action figures pose for a quick snap.

The brilliant brick wall isn’t the only art piece on show in this bathroom. Most of the bathroom furniture is also decked out as well! There are a couple of trapezoidal shelves that show off a couple figurines of Venom and a boxed version of Spider-man. The white webbing that accents these shelves has a sort of “comic book” authenticity to it that fits perfectly in this bathroom. Even the mirror has some of this webbing accenting the corners of the mirror.

The designer of this bathroom shows off two particularly rare comic books off in a haphazard alignment inside two black picture frames. These frames also feature the webbing used on most of the other bathroom.

Finally, if you look at the toilet, the toilet seat cover is a bright, vibrant red that matches the trash bin close by, and one of the hand towels sitting on top of the toilet reservoir.

Two particularily rare framed Spider-man comic books.

Matching Spider-man’s signature colors, the floor mat and the other hand towel sitting next to the red towel are both colored a powder blue.

Even the toilet is properly themed!

This wraps up a brilliantly designed bathroom that’s sure to WOW the next comic book fan expecting to walk into a “normal” bathroom. Even if you’re not into comics, it’s impossible to not admire the amount of thought, work, and craftsmanship that went into this remodel. Check out this link to RileyReplicas and view more images showing off this bathroom!

Why You Should Consider a Bathroom Library

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Is your bathroom a cell, or an escape?

Is this relaxing, or is this paying a visit to the local newsstand?

Is this relaxing, or is this paying a visit to the local newsstand?

Bathrooms aren’t typically thought of as places to just “get away,” which is unfortunate, because where else in your home do you get so much privacy? Turning on the television in your living room isn’t really an escape, because you are still surrounded by distractions. Reading in bed isn’t really an escape, because your spouse is probably right there with you, and can pull your attention away from your book at any moment.

Color Combination Ideals For An Amazing New Bathroom Feeling

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

When walking in to their bathroom, the last thing a person wants to see is the drab color combination. The wrong color combination, whether it be boring old white or something bright that just doesn’t fit anymore, can turn what was supposed to be a pleasant time getting ready to go out on a date or relaxing in the tub into nothing but shear chaos; thinking about what went wrong and what other possible color combinations are out there.

Don’t worry though because it is not the end of the world. There are lots of color options available to your bathroom remodel; just ask the author of this lovely article on the subject!

It is often a rule of thumb to not choose too many colors as it will take away from the calm feeling that most bathrooms give off; often three colors is the optimal choice. A good place to start would be selecting the main color; the color that is going to be the center and backdrop of your bathroom remodel. Choose a color that you like and would be good with seeing it every day. Once the main color is chosen, accent colors should then be picked that are complementary to the main color. It is also a good idea to choose colors that seem to go with your existing fixtures such as the bathroom vanity.

If you are feeling adventurous and bold, a high contrast scheme of something with pop, blue and yellow might be a choice to consider. If this is not what you are going for then a monochromatic scheme might be the best choice for you. When dealing with this type of scheme it is idea to choose one color and then to use different intensities of the same color in the rest of the room.

No matter what color scheme you may choose, get ready for the look of a new bathroom to keep you entertained and content for many years to come.
