Appliances, counter-tops and furniture, oh my! What is their expected life expectancy? This is a BIG question when it comes to building a house. What materials should the items installed be made of?
These questions depend on a number of things such as amount of use, material quality, quality of installation, weather and climate and level and effort of maintenance.
Within the bathroom the expected life expectancy of an item is different than they would be elsewhere in the home because of the moisture and humidity caused by the shower.
Items to consider are as flows:
– If taken care of properly bathroom cabinets can last a lifetime.
– Caulking around the base of the shower or tub will last between 2 and 20 years but may want to be changed more often simply to ensure its integrity.
– There are a range of counter-tops available that can be used on your bathroom vanity. Options such as cultured marble should last 20 years while natural stone and tile can last up to a life time when taken care of.
– Tub and shower faucets should last at least 20 years.
– Shower enclosures should last around 50 years while shower doors should last 20+ years.
– Shower heads should last a lifetime. Remember to clean them to remove hard water to make sure that they keep their full spray potential.
– Plumbing also last quite a long time if they are cleaned out every once in a while by a professional plumbing services contractor. Proper maintenance and regular plumbing services such as sewer line repair may also affect the lifespan and functionality of your plumbing system.
All of these items may be changed before their life expectancy is up as home owners try to keep up with ever changing trends and changes in their likes and dislikes.
But remember, if you chose not to replace previous furniture pieces and appliances that they need to be taken care of in order to last to their full potential.
