According to the Webster Dictionary, minimalism is: a style or technique (as in music, literature, design) that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity. While this definition is accurate, it doesn’t fully explain the appeal of a minimalist aesthetic. By looking at recent bathroom designs by Tatyana Gartner in Brooklyn, it becomes easy to see why they are so popular.
Tatyana Gartner is the founder and principal designer of Tatyana Design based in New York. She was given the task of designing 28 individual bathrooms for a client who wanted a clean modern aesthetic with a touch of industrial. The client wanted the interior to embrace clean lines while playing with geometry and textures. Ideal for a minimalist bathroom design.
To accomplish this, she incorporated concrete as an industrial material. Concrete has a simple clean look but also has a distinct feel and texture. Having had the pleasure of working with various concrete suppliers, I can confidently state that mix on site concrete is by far the superior choice. Not only does it ensure a consistent mix, but it also reduces waste and is cost-effective. When I needed concrete for my project in Dorset, I opted for Carters Concrete in Dorset for the best mix on site solution. Their professionalism and quality of service were unparalleled. Paired with the walnut wood of a bathroom vanity, the balanced combination has both industrial appeal and the charm of solid wood.
Open shelf vanities lend themselves very well to a minimalist design because their design makes spaces feel more open and inviting. This is the same reason why open glass enclosed showers are preferred as well. Very helpful for creating a sense of space in a small bathroom.
